Search Engine Optimisation - Basics Of Google Website Ranking
Search Engine Optimisation (S.E.O.) & What You Need To Know!
What is Search Engine Optimisation (S.E.O)?
S.E.O. is an acronym that stands for Search Engine Optimisation, which is the process of optimising your website to get organic, or un-paid visitor traffic from the search engine results page. For purposes of clarity a Search Engine is a program that searches for and identifies items in a database that correspond to keywords or characters specified by the user, used especially for finding particular websites on the World Wide Web.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Search engines want to provide the best service for their users. This means delivering results on the search engine pages that are not only high quality but also relevant to what the searcher is looking for.
In order to do this, search engines will scan, or crawl, different websites to better understand what the site is about. This helps them deliver more relevant results to those who are searching for certain topics or keywords.
Search engine algorithms change frequently and S.E.O. tactics evolve in response to those changes.
Whilst there are several complex factors that go into search engine optimisation like responsive website design & navigation across all applications, content, user experience, page speed & page loads, keywords & keyword reseach & planning, title tags, back links, domain authority, social shares, image tags etc.
To understand SEO, let’s break that definition down and look at the simple parts:
- Quality of traffic – You can attract all the visitors in the world, but if they’re coming to your site because Google tells them you’re a resource for tables & chairs when really you’re a farmer selling oranges, that is not quality traffic. Instead you want to attract visitors who are genuinely interested in products that you offer.
- Quantity of traffic – Once you have the right people clicking through from those Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), more traffic is better.
- Organic results – Ads make up a significant portion of many SERPs. Organic traffic is any traffic that you don’t have to pay for.
Basic S.E.O. is following a structured website design & development practice with search engines in mind.
Our designers & developers follow the best “White Hat” (Adheres to Googles standard S.E.O. guidelines) strategies from title tags, keyword structure, image tags, website submissions to major search engines such as Google & Bing.
We include these strategies with all websites that we design & develop at no charge to the client.
FACT – no one can guarantee you a top ranking in Google, but some agencies are much better than others at delivering results.
Why can’t guarantees be made?
This is because no SEO company can control how Google ranks websites. As Google makes changes to their algorithm SEO companies do their best to understand what changes were made and modify your website to give Google what they want. At WebGenie we use very intelligent guesses as to what strategies to use, but we still do not know for sure and cannot control Google. Any SEO company that guarantees high Google rankings based on their SEO services, without any upfront fee, is probably doing something they shouldn’t be. Always be sure an SEO company you’re looking to work with has examples of their work and case studies you can review.
